Heat Stress Prevention
Poultry, cattle, game birds, pigeons and all animals and livestock are at higher risk of heat stress in warm weather.
Your heat stress checklist:
Prevent biofilm: Biofilm can grow rapidly and block up drinkers and water lines in warm weather. Using a hydrogen peroxide water sanitiser such as Quill Water-Pure or Oxi-PURE will help to remove and prevent biofilm blockages, espeically when also dosing drinking water supplements.
Replace lost electrolytes: Electrolytes are essential for keeping all animals hydrated and for replacing lost salts, minerals and vitamins. Quill Lyte Plus replaces the essential B vitamins birds use up during heat stress which they cannot naturally replace, whilst Quill Lyte helps poultry and pigs maintain muscle hydration during hot weather.
Keep bedding dry and hygienic: Warm, damp animal bedding can become a breeding ground for disease and bacteria. An absorbent bedding powder with added disinfectant such as Quill Clean & Dri will soak up moisture and ammonia whilst providing residual protection against disease.
Deter mites: Mites thrive in warm conditions so make sure you are using products like Desi-Dust Diatomaceous Earth or Kill-Mite Powder to keep them at bay. We all supply a range of products for Red Mite Control to deter red mite in poultry housing.
Soft eggshells: Laying birds are more likely to suffer from calcium deficiency during hot weather resulting in soft eggshells. A calcium supplement such as Quill Calcium Boost or Lydden & Vale's Complete Egg & Bone Support will ensure hens do not become calcium deficient.
