Mallards In most cases more ducklings are lost because of wet bedding than any other single cause. The success of the Quill Drinker in rearing Mallard Ducks lies in the 10 high flow rate nipples fitted to each drinker. The flow rate through the nipples is controlled by changing the level of water within the drinker and can, if required, reach over 100 millilitres per minute. This is achieved using the reliable and proven Rainbow Valve which is easy to adjust and has a safety shut off feature. Using the valve to control water flow is simple, the higher the water level is in the drinker, the higher the flow rate through the nipples, the lower the water level, the lower the flow rate and so on. This allows the producer complete control over the flow of water going to his or her ducks.
Quill Drinkers can rear up to 200 ducklings on each unit and eliminate the problem of wet bedding and greatly reduce feather pecking between birds, so the ducks grow faster and feather quicker. In addition, feed stays drier and doesn’t end up sticking to the ducklings feathers. Duck can also be prone to suffering from feather mite. On open water systems water treated with expensive medication is often wasted, with the Quill Drinker it is extremely easy as you know the water available to the birds will be drunk, not played with.
A few days before the
birds are due to go to water introduce an open dish so the birds can get
accustomed to a complete soaking!
“Quill Drinkers have been a major life changing improvement! Now I have clean drinking water available 24 hours a day and such a reduction in bedding requirements. The ducklings stay much cleaner, eliminating losses due to them getting wet and cold. I calculate what it will cost me to fully equip my business with Quill Drinkers, I shall save on brought in wood shavings! Why didn’t you invent and produce the Quill Drinker years earlier? You would have saved me SO much work and saved the lifes of many ducklings” Dave Coombes, Trafalgar Ducks, Suppliers of mallard day-olds and poults)
