Poultry & Chicken Feeders

When selecting a feeder it is important to choose a product that is suitable for the situation in which it will be used. For example, if chicken feeders are intended to be used outside, they will obviously need to be waterproof and windproof.

Outside feeders often suffer from driven rain which soak up through the feed causing huge wastage. Feeders also often attract vermin such as squirrels and rats, and appropriate measures of protection should be applied.

Outdoor feeders should only be used by small poultry keepers or in a netted area as DEFRA has banned them from use in larger poultry flocks. This ban came into effect after Avian Influenza and the possible contamination by wild birds. We would recommend that grit is still supplied through our outside feeders like the Feed Bin Kits or the Midi Feeders as this is still within the law.
