The Quill Feed Bin Kit Free Range and Organic Meat For organic and free range table producers, an area of range enhancement that many may have not even thought about, or not thought possible due to the associated problems, is feeding their birds outside.
The main factors preventing outside feeding
are stopping the feed from getting wet, being wasted onto the floor and
encouraging rooks, jackdaws and other corvids onto the range area.
The Quill Feed Bin Kit is currently being used
on several organic and free range farms around the country as an
extremely important range enhancement feature.
The kit comprises a massive top hat and feed
tray which converts a 45 gallon drum into a very clever feeder. The tray
(which has a large rim to prevent any wastage onto the ground) sits on
an old tyre. The 45 gallon drum (pre cut for either pellets or mash with several horizontal slots
that form a feeding area) is then placed on top of the feed tray. The
drum, capable of holding up to six 25kg bags of food is then filled up
with the required quantity of feed and the top hat placed over the drum.
Rooks, crows and jackdaws will not feed from
the kits because they are very wary of the large top hat and will not
feed in an enclosed environment - this means that used outside you
should only
feed your birds and not the wild ones! The top hat will not blow off and as long as
the drum carries feed it will not blow over.
