Disinfectants & Cleaners

Disinfectants have many different applications in a commercial farming environment. When choosing a disinfectant it is important to remember how the product is challenged by the organic load. Prior to using a disinfectant, it is imperative that a good cleaner is used to remove any excess soil or dirt so that the disinfectant is able to kill any remaining bacteria.

As with all chemicals, disinfectants should be treated with extreme care. The correct recommended dilution rates should be used in addition to personal protective equipment (PPE). The one slight exception to this rule is obviously the alcohol hand cleaners and disinfectant gel. These products are designed to be applied directly to the skin, efficiently killing bacteria and then quickly drying.

We can supply indicator strips to test the relative strength of the disinfectant when it is being used. When the disinfectant is at 0.5% the indicator strip will go light green and dark green if the solution of disinfectant is stronger at 1%.

Virocid disinfectant contains two different quaternary ammonia compounds, one single and one double chain combined with Glutaraldehyde. Virocid disinfectant has world wide registrations and is non carcinogenic, non corrosive and environmentally friendly being over 90% biodegradable. Virocid disinfectant has a proven record of preventing and fighting disease outbreaks on farms and is reputed to be the strongest disinfectant in the world.

Detergents and cleaners are often applied by foaming as this locks in the moisture and encourages the lifting of dirt. A good cleaner should only be used on the appropriate surfaces and also consideration must be taken into account the environmental impact. Disinfectants need a clean surface to be more successful and foaming products from Cid Lines will achieve this level of pre-cleaning. Cid lines have just patented a disinfectant that will be very effective against cryptosporidiosis without phenol.

Biosafe is very effective cleaner for equipment and sensitive materials such as vehicles and is ideal for all corrosion sensitive surfaces e.g. aluminium, copper zinc etc. Cleaners are cost effective as they reduce the amount of water, energy and time to remove dirt allowing a better disinfection afterwards.
